It has been a long time coming. It started last year with shooting phesants and now I harvested my first deer. It was an awesome experience. One shot in the pump station, as the hunters explained it. The experience was made more enjoyable by seeing grown men, "experienced hunters" running around like children as excited as I was about me taking my first deer. Of course the long standing southern tradition of being "bloodied in" had to continue. Nothing like a 350lb Alabama backwoods hunter grabbing hold of you and wiping blood on your face. No, I didn't bite the heart, being bloodied in was enough. I'm looking forward to seeing other first harvest deer photos with bloodied in pictures. God bless and Love, Chrissy

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!
For the big feast we are chowing down on a fabulous deep fried turkey, spiral-sliced ham(I glazed it with my recipe), stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, sugared/nutty sweet potatoes, devil'd guacamole eggs, and for desert(probably after our tryptophan nappy time), we will enjoy a fresh made(not store bought) pumpkin pie and chocolate cheesecake(home made too). By that time, and after watching a football game or three, we will all be comatosed and ready for beddy-bye. Thinking of all y'all, Luv n Hugs, Margaret, Eldon, Eldon, Jayden, Ashton and G'ma and G'pa Brewer.

Family Hunting
Important Note: None of the above restrictions apply for young family hunters who have never harvested a deer, but will be going on their first hunt to actually pull the trigger. Anything with a hard horn counts and you better take lots of pictures for the blog and website.
Have a safe fun hunt. If I don't see or hear from you before hand, have a merry thanksgiving and a happy christmas and I'll be up some time during the hunting week with the Game Warden.
Love,
Thad
just kidding, the Game Warden has already been up and he usually only visits once a year

Why Rednecks can't be Paramedics
Bubba and Dwayne are out in the woods hunting when Bubba grabs his chest and falls to the ground. He doesn't seem to be breathing; his eyes are rolled back in his head.
Dwayne whips out his cell phone and calls 911. He gasps to the operator, "I think Bubba is dead! What should I do?"
The operator, in a calm soothing voice says, "Just take it easy and follow my instructions.
..........First, let's make sure he's dead."
There is a silence... and then a shot rings out.
Dwayne comes back on the line, "Okay, now what ???

Grandma's Deer Hash Recipe
Need to get it on the main page admin....
FROM JUSTINA:
Cindy—Making Kolaces to sell in Connies bakery is a truly inspired idea. I think its awesome that shes doing so well. Our family rocks...
Anyway, here's how to make deer hash like Grandma Mudd...
My mom knows it best (you can verify it with her), but I think this is pretty much it...
So you cook the hell out of the meat til its fallingoff the bones (covered, w/ a couple cups of water)...seasoned with s & p, and sage (I add sliced onions and garlic cuz I love em)... Scrape every last morsel of meat off the bones (keeping in mind all the kids in ethiopia)... Discard the BARE bones... Add to the meat and juices a cup (or two) of water, in which you will dissolve a tbsp (or two) of flour. Turn the heat down, so you don't burn the gravy—it needs to simmer to thicken. Stir it good to make sure there are no clumps of flour you may have missed in the cup... Cook it longer if you want it thicker and don't be afraid to add more flour or water if it looks like it needs it. When I used to help grandma make the hash, she was never exact with her measurements. I think you should just judge it the best you can—according to how muchmeat there is, how much juice cooked off, how much gravy you want, how thick you want it, etc—and justplay with it... Just remember this is down-homecooking, not a science, just more of a feeling. Thats how grandma did it. Every time was a little different. The only constant was that when she served up on a slice of bread we all scarfed it down. I have made some a couple of times with some of the deer meat my mom brought out here (thank you noble andgenerous hunters) and Sean loved it... up until I told him it was deer meat... ugh. Now he swears that he knew it all along. Yeah right. I still sneak it in,just like grandma used to do with Martin... ;o) He doesn't know the difference. I made some kick ass chili with it too and it was gone before I had achance for left-overs. Anyway, i love ya'll and hope that you whip up some good stuff. Eat some for me. I just love to cook, and sharing recipes—whether family tradition or impromptu experimentation—is what its all about... God bless you all and Dobrunotz!!!
Miles of love,
Justinka & Sean x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0x0.....
p.s. (gotta share a joke my mom told me, that her priest told her)
Priest: Do you know how to make Holy Water?
My mom: ummm... Yeah. You—
Preist: Wrong. You take a pot. Put it on the stove.Fill it with water, and—
BOIL THE HELL OUT OF IT.
hehehe. :o) I couldn't resist.

Have you seen these little breads before? I wanted to show these little guys off. Using gradma's banana bread recipe Eldon and Margaret have used the banana base and added a little fun...they have strawberry, chocolate chip, blueberry, pineapple (my favorite), a new 4 Berry and of course the ever popular banana nut. I have received 3 packages of 20-32 of this little breads. They are selling very well in my new Coffee shop. Which be the way I am already in the black , as a new business owner operating an already profitable business has been very fulfilling and a whole HELL of a lot of work. But thanks to Eldon and Margaret I have increased my product line at an affordabe price on a product that is worth having...plus it is something that Grandma would be super proud of.
I am always looking to increase the products I sell, so if you have any ideas or a product you'd like to promote like Jams, Jellies, Cindy is thinking about sending Kolaches, really any bakery item will do. Let me know. My home number is (502)413-5581, my cell (618) 306-1111.
Connie
p.s. our family is doing really well...I don't get to see them very much now that i am pulling about 15-19 hours a day. I am open form 6m-2pm I get in about 2:30 am make donuts and don't leave most of the time until 6pm. M-SAT. off Sun

Blog update
Here we are at the hospital, and I'm sure you can tell that we are just zipping through labor since I have the time and concentration to read and post to the blog.
Just wanted to let you know that we have duplicated our Macaliks Abroad blog on Yahoo! 360. We will continue to update the Macaliks Abroad on Blogger, but we're waiting for Rob to finish his Russia posting there first before posting anything else. Sooooooo...we can be found at www.360.yahoo.com/m_macalik . You might bookmark it there. We have some photo albums up from our trip, and the blog there is updated throughlast night when we arrived at the hospital to be prepped for induction since I am 10 days overdue. Whew.
We'll keep you posted. :)
Love,
Mel
P.S. I think our family is fabulous. Just thought I'd share....

Uncle Jerry...
Uncle Jerry and I hunted together the whole time, daily after school, while I was up in Junction with Grandma. He was my first real hunting partner. He always told me how he would really enjoy the chance to go on a bear hunt where some crazed slobbering 500lb bear would charge him, forcing him to unloaded his gun into it as raced towards him and right before it's deadly attack would fall dead at his feet. I can vividly recall sitting with him while he would tell me that story and thinking to myself, what a brave man. Many of those type of stories took place on the way from school to the ranch for the evening hunt. I would then be forced to sit in a blind all alone in the middle of the woods with my mind racing in anticipation of the bear attack that never came. Many hours of good hunting was spent peering out the back door of the slab-blind down into the dark gully that ran behind it, searching for the slightest movement which would indicate my impending death. Thank God the bear never came.
As I sat on my stand in Maine, I can't tell you how many memories of uncle Jerry I had about that hunting season we spent together. I know he was with me when I took my bear. I'm just as sure that he had a lot to do with how wonderful the whole experience was.

Cindy's Family
I am 6 months pregnant, again, with a little girl. Her name is Jessica Lynn Zike. She is due December 21, the day before Katharine's birthday. Noah goes to Holy Family Catholic School. He is in Pre-k, and loves going. He never complains about having to get up and get dressed. He even tells me everything he did at school. Before it was always, "I don't know!" David can't wait to go to school. He loves to write in his work book. He does it everyday. He also is very helpful with his sister. Katharine is 20 months old, and already helps me with the dishes. She unloads the dishwasher and hands the dishes to me. She is very cute and smart. She is learning to go potty now. It is her third day and she already just goes by herself. Yesterday, she even went number 2 all by herself. I am so proud. Cindy

Lots of Love, Cindy

G'ma Matej
Today would be the 113th Birthday of Grandma Justina Matej, born in 1893, and passed away April 1, 1982. She is buried in the Donna city cemetary next to Grandpa Louis Matej. Please say the Rosary for the repose of her soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed.
Dove Hunting Success!
Yup the birddogs found it. It's the first, but certainly not the last dead dove of the season.
Quick update!!!
Hope all is going good. We've made it through the first month of school without too much drama. Jayden is so EXCITED to go to school, I pull up at the front of the school and she's ready to jump out before I even stop. "I love you, see you after school" are her words and out the door she goes. Eldon on the other hand somedays needs a little push in the mornings and somedays a kick out of the van, no just kidding. He goes, but isn't as thrilled about it as Jayden.
He had his first Social Studies project over the weekend and he did pretty good, he had to make a map of his community and write a paper, it looked pretty good. He hasn't gotten a grade yet, so we're having to wait, we hope he gets a good one. We have open house next week and we'll get to see all the fun stuff they've been doing in class and see how they've been behaving, which so far has been nothing but BIG SMILES and E's.
Ashton's doing good, fighting a bad cold but getting better, not sure where he got it from. He's our booggie boy, his nose just doesn't seem to stop. Yesterday he just wasn't himself and today he's more of the Ashton we all know and love, still a little on the "Hold Me" side but getting more back to the active and silly side.
Well got to go,
LOVE TO ALL,
Margaret

P.S. Maybe try to post a couple pics a week or so, if you can. To make it easier for you, you can get the 'picasa' program from the google website and once you install it, it finds all the pics on your computer and organizes them for you. It has a simple to use function that posts your pics directly to the blog. Here is the direct link to download picasaif you want to try it. http://picasa.google.com/download/thanks.html

I'll make this quick, I'm hogging up all the space
So here are the latest pics on my shop opening...ribbon cutting ceremony and first batch of donuts.
Me and Carrie & kids are the only ones you'll recognize. Michael and Seth are taking pictures. They conveniently stay out of the way of the camera. I'll try to get a cheap shot of them later. hehehe...our secret. Actually in Carrie's camera there is a picture were Michael is holding Isaac...when in a conversation the day before he said, "I'm not a baby holder"...well we've caught him with baby in hand. When she gets home (Monday) she'll try to upload for EVERYONE to see! double hehehehe. ;)
Carrie in KY
Michael and Seth are out at our property in Blandville, on a shooting spree. Carrie and I are here checking out the blog and playing with the kids.
As you can see Raven just got out of the shower and little Isaac doesn't like his picture taken...but we made him anyway...he sure is a sweetie and Connor is a great big brother. You should see him sweet talk his brother...he'll get right up in Isaac's grill and talk softly. It is sweet. Take care everyone.

Carrie is going to WI for a wedding, and it just so happens that she'll be here to help me on my first day of opening, and I'll be having my ribbon cutting ceremony also on Monday @ 10am while she's here. I am both excited and nervous.

PIZZA, PIZZA!!!
What's left of our HUGE Homemade pizza. You shoulda been there. Domino's nor Pizza Hut have anything on us.
A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!!!
Well this has been one busy week for us, both Eldon and Jayden started school monday and on Jayden's birthday(8-14). Eldon's in 3rd grade and really likes his teacher Ms. Bailey and Jayden is in Kindergarden and really likes her teacher Ms. Gardener, too. First day was a good day, NO TEARS, which was suprising but on the 2nd day she remembered how to cry, her teacher took her by the hand and off they went to have a GREAT DAY, which I knew she would. Ashton's been having fun having the whole house and ALL the toys to himself, he should be in Pre-K next year and that's a little scary. He's very head strong, so next year should be something to look forward to but we'll see.
Love to all,
Margaret, Eldon, Eldon, Jayden, and Ashton

How to invite...
Raven's in 3rd Grade
Hello Everyone,
I'm still trying to figure this out. I couldn't rotate the picture of Raven, maybe I'll figure it out. Well the picture on the far left is my new coffee and donut shop. I have all the pieces in place I'm waiting on a plumber to install the beautiful two group espresso machine I got yesterday. The plumber should be out tomorrow A.M. I'm nervous, Monday should be my first day open, I'll have a Grand Opening this next weekend. I'll be in the local paper next week. I already have people knocking on my door. =)
Raven's first day of 3rd grade was on Tuesday. They change classes like High School students. I didn't change classes ''til I was in 6th grade. She really enjoys school.
Michael has also started his own company, HomeTown Development, there are great opportunities out here for new business. The county government is really supportive. There is a big movement to improve the quality of life out here and if anybody is interested in investing in real estate, this is the time and the place.Come visit we'll show you around.
Well, this has been fun!
Love you all,
Connie, Michael and Raven
(that's the inside, ther is a full kitchen, nice seating area outside and 3 tables inside.)
I'll run this for 3 years and use the profits to start my own Health Food Store...that's my real passion...sometimes you've gotta start small. I'm excited to have gotten this far. I've wanted it for sooo long. yippy.
Hook 'Em Horns!
Caden has learned how to drink from a bottle/cup, or at least put his mouth around it and let the cold water run down his chin. He smiles, I think he is proud he can do something that mama and daddy can do.
Any idea how to...
2) Get some kind of email or alert when someone else has updated?
That'd be great, thanks. :)
This is a completely fabulous idea!!!
Quick update, and then I'm going to update my other blog. We're doing well, are very pregnant and are enjoying a quiet house now that all of our guests have left and our newest arrival isn't scheduled for another six weeks. We still don't know if Squirt is a boy or a girl (and, no, Dad, we will not be finding out; thank you very much!), but we have names picked for both, have a bed and stroller purchased and, hopefully, have all of the necessities in order. All that's left is to pick a pediatrician, and I'm hoping to be on top of that next week.
Rob is getting ready to go back to the States for training for three days in Orlando. It'll be his first time in the States since we left last August! Right now, though, he's battling a stomach bug, so if you guys will pray that he's over that and good to travel on Sunday, that would be great!
That's all from here. Going now to research "food poisoning," (and no, I did not cook whatever it was that may have made him sick!) possibly make a doctor's appointment for my hubbie, and then, to update my blog! (Can you see how we initially fell behind on this blog thing?? Eight months and no update. How ridiculous!)
We love you all and are excited for this new way to keep in touch!
